TITLE: Communication Arts, ASL, Faculty – Full

SALARY: Depends on Qualifications

OPENING DATE: 01/13/14

CLOSING DATE: Continuous

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Faculty – 10 month position.

Teach five courses per semester which may include: American Sign Language I – V, Fingerspelling & Numbers, Linguistics of ASL, Deaf Issues and Visual Gestural Communication.

Provide ASL placement and screening, advising and academic counseling to students in the program.

Assist program coordinator as needed.

Participate and contribute to professional organizations and the college community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree required, in a Deaf-related discipline such as American Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies or Linguistics of ASL. ASLTA certification strongly preferred with a minimum of five years professional teaching experience, preferably at the college level.

Strong and effective teaching methods in ASL required. Extensive knowledge of Deaf culture and the Deaf community required, with the ability to interact effectively with both deaf and hearing individuals. Ability and willingness to contribute in a meaningful way to the college community
preferred.
