Next Stop Theatre Company Presents Shakespeare’s Richard III Hybrid Performance

richard3Next Stop Theatre Company will be presenting Shakespeare’s Richard III from January 30-February 23, 2014, at the Industrial Strength Theatre in Herndon, Virginia. The unique performance stars deaf actor Ethan Sinnott, who is also Gallaudet University’s Program Director for Theatre.

One of the central themes of the production is Richard’s isolation as a Deaf man in a hearing world. As such, only certain characters sign throughout the entire play, including the actor who plays Richard. There are three actors in the production who are deaf (and sign all the time) and a few hearing actors who utilize ASL at various times. Since the show is not completely signed, certain performances will have ASL interpreters.
