Be inspired by the magic and mystery of The Lion King, Jr. and charmed by scenes presented by students from the Maryland School for the Deaf as young actors join together to take a bite out of hunger at 1 PM Sunday, March 6th at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick. Enjoy quality family time while learning the values of courage, connection, and helping others. All proceeds from this family-friendly benefit performance will go to the Frederick Food Bank.
Scenes performed by actors from the Maryland School for the Deaf will be interpreted for the hearing. Actors from Friends Meeting School will perform The Lion King, Jr., a story that showcases the deep interconnection of all life and the courage needed to face one’s fears and make the right choice, wrapped up in wonderful costumes, scenery and inspirational music.
The play will be interpreted for the hearing-impaired.
The performance is part of the Students Acting for the Community program, which has raised more than $4,500 and collected more than 3,700 pounds of food for the Frederick Community Action Agency’s food bank program since 2009. The program, sponsored by Friends Meeting School, extends beyond the school. “Home school groups, local businesses, dance troupes, a university, singers and scriptwriters, and other schools have united together in past performances to help feed people in our area who often go to bed hungry,” said Brenda Yankaskas, Performing Arts Director. “Please contact me if you are interested in joining this effort. We will have certificates of participation for groups who help with food collection and/or ticket sales available at the show.”
Tickets are $10 plus a canned or boxed food item, and are available by calling 301-600-2828 or at the Weinberg Box Office. Those interested in group ticket prices, can contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
